    Efficacy of inspirational motivation on the performance of public health workers in mid-north of Uganda

    Purpose: This study sought to determine the efficacy of inspirational motivation on the performance of middle-level Public Health Workers (PHWs) in Lira District Local Government. Specifically, the study aimed to: determine the degree of inspirational motivation among ML-PHWs in Lira District; determine the level of performance among ML-PHWs in Lira District; and investigate the effect of inspirational motivation on the performance of ML-PHWs in Lira District. Research methodology: The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design while incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study used stratified and simple random sampling procedures to select health facilities, supervisors and ML-PHWs; a total of 164 respondents were selected. Results: The findings suggest that inspirational motivation has a significant effect on the performance of ML-PHWs ( p<0.01). Limitations: This study only focused on one construct of transformational leadership style (inspirational motivation), yet there are several constructs of that style, which may affect the performance of PHWs. Contribution: The findings of this study can be useful to public service managers wishing to enhance the performance of PHWs using limited resources.

    Intellectual stimulation and employee performance: Reflections on mid-level healthcare workers in Lira district, Uganda

    The study sought to determine the influence of intellectual stimulation on the performance of middle level healthcare workers in Lira District Local Government. The objectives of the study were; to determine the level of intellectual stimulation among middle-line health workers in lira district; to determine the level of performance among middle level healthcare workers in Lira District; and to determine the effect of intellectual stimulation on the performance of middle level employee in Lira District Local Government. The study adapted a cross-sectional survey design while incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study used stratified, purposive sampling and simple random sampling procedures to select health facilities, supervisors and middle level healthcare workers respectively. A total of 164 respondents were selected. Data was analyzed using STATA 15. The findings suggest that intellectual stimulation (  0.144, p<0.01), and individualized consideration (   0.190, p<0.05) have positive and significant influence on employee performance while intellectual stimulation has a negative insignificant effect on employee performance. The study recommends that management of health facilities should focus their efforts of management strategy on attracting, developing and retaining transformational leaders which could impact the organization in a more positive regard as employee become and remain engaged.

    Reviewing idealised consideration and its relevance to the performance of middle-level healthcare workers in Lira District, Uganda

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the link between idealised consideration and the performance of healthcare workers in mid-north Uganda. Cross sectional design was adopted targeting 220 middle-level healthcare workers and 30 health facility in-charge. The genuine sample size involved 136 middle-level healthcare workers and 28 health facility in-charges. Data were gathered by means of a self-administered questionnaire using quantitative methods to assess the link between idealised consideration and the performance of healthcare workers in Lira district. Data were analysed by means of both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results reveal that idealised consideration employed by health facility in-charges in health centres is very relevant to the performance of healthcare workers leading to enhanced efficiency and effectiveness as well as timeliness. Nonetheless, the slow fusion of idealised consideration within the general organisational structure ruined reasonable effectiveness and timeliness for health service delivery. The outcomes of this study can be act as beneficial contribution for the Ugandan healthcare policymakers and practitioners in evolving a parameter on incorporation of attributes of idealised consideration in the performance of employee standards for better efficiency and effectiveness, timeliness and productivity. This study makes an input to the budding body of knowledge by underlining prospects for idealised consideration which can generate proactive management towards the performance of employees in Uganda.

    Transformational Leadership Style and Middle Level Civil Servant Performance in Public Health Sector in Lira District Local Government

    The study sought to determine the influence of transformational leadership on the performance of middle level employees in Lira District Local Government Health Sector. The objectives of the study were: to determine the influence of individualized consideration on the performance of middle level employees in Lira District Local Government.; to investigate the influence of inspirational motivation on the performance of middle level employees in Lira District Local Government; and to assess the influence of intellectual stimulation on the performance of middle level employees in Lira District Local Government. The study adopted a cross sectional survey design while incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods. The study used stratified, purposive sampling and simple random sampling procedures to select health facilities, supervisors and middle level employees respectively. A total of 164 respondents were selected. Data was analyzed using STATA 15. The findings suggest that inspirational motivation (β=0.144, p<0.01), and individualized consideration (β=0.190, p<0.05) have positive and significant influence on employee performance while intellectual stimulation has a negative insignificant effect on employee performan The conclusion of the study was: - leaders should always apply individualized consideration and inspirational motivation leadership style since they positively affect the performance of middle level employees in Lira District. The study therefore recommends that management of health facilities should focus their efforts of management strategy on attracting, developing and retaining transformational leaders which could impact the organization in a more positive regard as employees become and remain engaged.
